How air conditioning works in SS6
We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. The work covers VRF systems, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life and fans and portables that don’t keep up.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.
How we quote
No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.

Near you in Rayleigh
Around Rayleigh, our work takes us to homes and businesses near FitzWimarc School, Glebe Primary School and Church of Holy Trinity, among other places. There’s a railway station in Rayleigh itself: Rayleigh station. Open spaces near Rayleigh include Little Haven Nature Reserve.
Where we install in SS6
From Rayleigh, Rochford and Thundersley outwards, SS6 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.
SS6 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.
Rayleigh: Living close to Church of Holy Trinity? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. If you work from home near Rayleigh station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.
What affects the quote in SS6
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- The number of rooms, units or zones
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you’re unsure, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.
What we need to know
To speed up the quote, send us:
- A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
- Your installation or service records
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- The rating plate or label on any existing unit
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
What the work involves, system by system
Outdoor unit positions
On flats and terraced houses, space outside is often the deciding factor. We look at walls, roofs, balconies and yards on the survey and we flag any consent you may need.
Multi-split systems
With a multi-split, one outdoor unit serves two or more rooms. It saves wall space outside and suits homes where several rooms need cooling and each indoor unit has its own controls.
Looking after your system
Systems last better with the right care. We suggest:
- Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
- Never run the system with the filters out
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We’ll remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Report drips, noises or error codes early. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault and catching it early keeps the repair small.
Signs you need air conditioning
Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Comfortable staff and customers are the usual reason businesses get in touch, and some rooms need cooling for the equipment as much as the people.
Customers usually contact us when they notice one of these:
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
SS6: your questions answered
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
How soon will you get back to me?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
