About air conditioning in SS16
Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with pictures of the rooms and the outside of the property, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. We are often asked to deal with uncertainty over the right type and size of system and a business premises that overheats in summer, on ducted systems, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems.
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
- We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.
What you will pay
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re unsure, call 07833 053749 or email us for straight advice and a fixed price.
What you get with us
- Checkatrade member
- Clear warranty information from the manufacturer
- An F-Gas certified company, as the law requires
- Enquiries answered the same working day
Get a fixed-price quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Air conditioning across SS16: local notes
Across SS16, from Basildon, Pitsea and Laindon to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
SS16 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.
Basildon: Around St Martin of Tours, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. If you work from home near Basildon station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.
What we are called out for in SS16
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and the heat lingers long after the sun has moved round.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- A study or office that overheats during the day
- Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
- Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
Managing agents and facilities teams in SS16
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.
System by system
Ducted systems
Ducted systems need space for the unit and the ductwork, and access for servicing. We check that on the survey before recommending one.
Multi-split systems
A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. The pipe routes to each room make the biggest difference to the price.
After we have gone
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
- Let filters dry fully before you put them back
- Leave space around the outdoor unit
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We will remind you when it’s due, so it doesn’t get forgotten.
Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Blocked filters cut airflow and make the system work harder, which costs you more to run.
Your questions about air conditioning in SS16
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Which type of system should I choose?
There’s no single best type. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
Typically, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
How long will the installation take?
Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-split, ducted and cassette systems take longer and the quote says how long to expect.
How quickly will you reply?
You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
