Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Cock Clarks

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home; adding it alongside a boiler does not qualify. Common call-outs are for checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and working out whether radiators need upsizing, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, radiator systems and air-to-air heat pumps.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Cock Clarks, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.

FAQs for Cock Clarks

Will a heat pump in Cock Clarks need planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The half-mile around the middle of Cock Clarks holds about 4 listed buildings and structures. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Cock Clarks, typically Maldon council).

Is the heat pump grant available in Cock Clarks?

Cock Clarks is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we are happy to show ours.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.

How soon will you get back to me?

The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Before you call an engineer

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Honest limits

Air source heat pumps can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It will not put right:

  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Formal advice on VAT for your situation

Not sure which it is? You can call 07833 053749 and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Radiator systems
  • Underfloor heating
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders

The process

Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Visits to Cock Clarks are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
