Air source heat pumps in Great Oakley

After we have gone

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Avoid switching the heat pump on and off often
  • Keep radiators clear

Where we applied for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, we keep you informed through the process, as the installer applies for it.

Leave space around the outdoor unit. It needs good airflow to collect heat from outside so keep it unobstructed.

How we handle air source heat pumps in Great Oakley

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If the problem is questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and no space for a hot water cylinder, we can help.

For a home around Great Oakley that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.

Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Air source heat pumps around Great Oakley

The coast is only about 2 miles from Great Oakley. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so a heat pump near the sea needs a sensible position and regular checks, and some models offer corrosion protection for coastal sites. Roughly a third of a mile or less from central Great Oakley, you reach the Great Oakley Conservation Area. Parish Church of All Saints, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 16 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Great Oakley’s centre. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? About 82% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

Live in one of the older houses around Parish Church of All Saints? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. With Thorpe Hall about 3.5 miles south, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Great Oakley

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:

  • What electrical work the job needs
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • What kind of system it is

Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

Before you get in touch

What to send for a quote:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The make and model of the system, from the label
  • The address and the type of property

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

What air conditioning will not do

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances

If you are not sure, just ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Great Oakley questions

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Great Oakley?

Great Oakley is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Is Great Oakley within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

Air-to-water systems are £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before any grant. Your price depends on the survey, the emitters and the hot water, and you get a fixed-price quote.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, normally whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

The process

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Great Oakley so we arrive with what’s needed.

  1. It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
