Air source heat pumps in Latton

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Latton and the rest of Essex. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We help you work out which suits your home. If the problem is no space for a hot water cylinder and working out whether radiators need upsizing, we can help.

In a place like Latton, some homes are listed, and permitted development does not cover listed buildings, so we check consent first.

Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

The process

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, carry out the job, check the system and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Work in Latton is booked in advance at a time that suits you.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property
  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas

How to get a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

Rented and managed buildings

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed-price quote.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.

Air source heat pumps around Latton

About 64% of homes in and around Latton date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and Census 2021 figures found about 51% of households in terraced houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Terraced houses share walls with neighbours, which helps, but the outdoor unit position needs care with noise next door.

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Andrew, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler.

Latton: your questions answered

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Latton?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Latton sits inside the Puffers Green Conservation Area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask Harlow council, which is normally the planning authority for Latton.

Do you cover smaller places like Latton?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Do you protect the property while you work?

Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. At the lower temperatures a heat pump uses, radiators need more surface so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.
