About our air source heat pumps in Brook Street

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Brook Street and the rest of Essex. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. We are often asked to deal with working out whether radiators need upsizing and plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump, on hot water cylinders, air-to-water heat pumps and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.

For a home around Brook Street that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Brook Street

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • How many units are involved
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before we start.

Before you get in touch

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • Your installation or service records
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749 or send an email.

Looking after your system

Systems last better with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t block radiators or indoor units with furniture
  • Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
  • Check what your manufacturer’s warranty asks of you

The warranty on the heat pump is the manufacturer’s, on its own terms. We go through the conditions with you, including any servicing they ask for.

Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.

What a heat pump looks like in Brook Street

In the mile around Brook Street’s centre, 2 conservation areas have been designated. On the National Heritage List, around 7 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Brook Street; Moat House (grade II*) is one. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? About 47% of homes in Brook Street and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and about 76% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Period properties close to Church of St Peter can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. Historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 3.2 miles south-west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.

FAQs for Brook Street

Do you cover smaller places like Brook Street?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Brook Street?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Brook Street is in England, where it applies. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.

How do you keep the place clean during the work?

We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.

Do you work on all makes?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, day and night. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, and that takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Brook Street.

  1. First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
  4. Installation follows on the agreed dates.
  5. The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time

Safe owner checks

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
