How air source heat pumps works in Oxfordshire
Every installation starts with a heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day so the system is sized to match. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. The work covers air-to-water heat pumps, underfloor heating and radiator systems, and people most often call us about finding a place for the outdoor unit and working out where a cylinder could go.
If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before any work starts, so you can plan around it. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. The work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker.
- You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
- The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
Pricing in Oxfordshire
Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all make a difference.

Getting a price
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Where we fit heat pumps in Oxfordshire
In Oxfordshire, we fit heat pumps in places such as Oxford, Banbury and Didcot and well beyond. Every place on our Oxfordshire list (443 in all) is covered.
An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, while NICEIC approval covers the electrical work.
Oxford: Holywell Manor, roughly 0.8 miles north-west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings. If your home is one of the older properties near St Clement's Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where property maintenance often slips. Every visit is written up, with F-Gas records wherever refrigerant work is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Oxfordshire. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building to keep disruption down.
System by system
Air-to-air heat pumps
Air-to-air heat pumps warm rooms through indoor units and can cool them in summer. Hot water needs a separate source, so that has to come from elsewhere.
VAT on heat pumps
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%, under HMRC Notice 708/6. Businesses pay the standard rate.
Common problems we fix in Oxfordshire
For homes with no mains gas, heated by oil or LPG, a heat pump is well worth considering. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes an extra £1,500, until March 2027, for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas, subject to the scheme rules.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- Plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump
- Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
- Questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
- Planning and permitted development questions
Why act early?
Planning rules have specific conditions. Checking the position for your home at the survey stage avoids surprises later covering listed buildings, conservation areas and any Article 4 direction.

Oxfordshire: your questions answered
What accreditations do you have?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.
Is Oxfordshire in your area?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Oxfordshire included.
Is a heat pump permitted development?
In England, many air source heat pumps on houses can be permitted development, if the conditions are met. The outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less, comply with MCS 020(a), not be cooling-only and not be within a listed building’s curtilage.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.
How does the warranty work?
Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
Can I get a grant for an air-to-air heat pump?
Yes, but only where it becomes the home’s main heating. An air-to-air heat pump can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating, meets the full heating demand, is fitted by an MCS certified installer and is in a home. Fitted alongside a boiler, it won’t qualify.
