Air source heat pumps in Northway
We install air source heat pumps in Northway and across Oxfordshire, and we are MCS certified. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. The work covers underfloor heating, air-to-air heat pumps and radiator systems, and people most often call us about an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air.
For a house near Northway, space outside is rarely the problem, so the main questions are heat loss, radiators and the electrics.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

What happens if it’s left?
From 1 April 2027, VAT on heat pumps in homes rises from 0% to 5%. If you’re thinking about a heat pump, that date is worth knowing, though the right time also depends on your home and heating. Dealing with it now is normally simpler than a breakdown later.
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before we start, with VAT shown clearly.

Rented and managed buildings
Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we will copy in whoever needs it.
Bigger systems bring extra duties: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
How the visit works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We plan the visit to Northway from the survey or your photos.
- First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
- The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.
How to prepare
- Let us know where the consumer unit is
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Let us know where we can park and unload
Getting a price
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price before any work starts.
Advice
Northway: your questions answered
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Northway?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Old Headington Conservation Area is close to the centre of Northway. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Northway, normally Oxford City council).
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Northway?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Northway, if they qualify. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Do you cover Northway?
Yes. We cover Northway and the rest of Oxfordshire, within the London and South East area we cover. To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before booking, and we’re happy to show ours.

Before you call an engineer
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
