Air conditioning in Northway

About our air conditioning in Northway

Air conditioning is not only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Every installation in Northway begins with a look at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote that names the make and model.

Planning permission is not usually needed for a house if the unit qualifies as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats need more care: we flag that at the survey.

Homes around Northway are mostly houses, many with gardens, so there’s usually space for the outdoor unit. The bigger questions are the wall construction and the route back to the consumer unit.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork, because it helps with any later warranty question.

What happens on the day

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins so it does not catch you out. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Send pictures of the space and the outside wall, and we can plan the work near Northway.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. An early booking makes the visit to Northway easier to arrange.

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Owner checks or an engineer?

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and phone us on 07833 053749 or email us.

Air conditioning around Northway

At about 52 miles from central London, Northway sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East.

Homes near St Anthony of Padua are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. Holywell Manor, about 1.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Northway is about 1 mile north of Oxford, in Oxfordshire. Whether you are in the middle of Northway or further out, our engineers cover air conditioning, from small jobs to large ones. Northway is one of 443 towns, villages and districts in Oxfordshire where we work. Guildford, roughly 46 miles off, has its own page on this site.

If you need air conditioning at a property on Copse Lane, Marsh Lane and Upway Road or anywhere close by, we can help. Northway sits on or near the A40, so getting to you is simple. We also cover the places around Northway: Headington (1 mile south-east), Marston (1 mile north-west), New Marston (1 mile south-west), Headington Hill (1 mile south) and Headington Quarry (1 mile south-east). Further out, we also cover Didcot (11 miles south), Bicester (9 miles north), Abingdon-on-Thames (7 miles south) and Witney (12 miles west).

Local landmarks in Northway

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around English Faculty Library, Bury Knowle Park and Cheney School, among other places. Your questions about air conditioning in Northway

Can I fit air conditioning in Northway without planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. There’s a conservation area, the Old Headington Conservation Area, close to central Northway. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that are not used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with the local planning authority (for Northway, normally Oxford City council).

Do you cover Northway for air conditioning?

Yes, Northway is within the area we cover. Just give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few details.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

In most cases, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which type of air conditioning is best?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

How long will the installation take?

It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We confirm the time when we quote so there are no surprises.

Let and managed properties

Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
