When it’s something else

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what air source heat pumps will not do:

  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating

About our air source heat pumps in Chinnor

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If the problem is working out whether radiators need upsizing and ageing boilers that will need replacing, we can help.

Homes around Chinnor typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder, so the main questions are heat loss, radiators and the electrics.

The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler and it’s worth keeping safe.

The process

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Getting to the outside of the property matters more than parking in a place like Chinnor.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Before we arrive

  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

Questions from Chinnor

Is Chinnor within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Is the heat pump grant available in Chinnor?

Chinnor is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.

2 conservation areas lie within a mile of central Chinnor. Church of St Andrew, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 28 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Chinnor’s centre. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? Census 2021 figures found about 75% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Andrew, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Adwell House, roughly 3.6 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings.

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
  • The condition of any existing system

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • Wide pictures of the room or the existing unit
  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, call 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
