Air source heat pumps near Henwood

About our air source heat pumps in Henwood

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside, using electricity to drive the process. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If the problem is radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump, we can sort it out.

Older and listed homes in villages like Henwood need extra care, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.

Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Henwood: your questions answered

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Henwood?

Henwood is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Will you come out to Henwood?

Yes. Henwood is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?

Under the Planning Portal rules, a heat pump on a house can often be permitted development. Listed buildings are excluded, and listed building consent is separate, so we check for your property.

Which accreditations do you hold?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Every visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.

Do you work on all makes?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Formal advice on VAT for your situation

If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Hot water cylinders
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas

What the work involves, system by system

Hot water cylinders

An air-to-water heat pump heats hot water through a cylinder. Space for the cylinder is part of the survey particularly in homes with a combi boiler.

Air-to-water heat pumps

The price for air-to-water is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. A £7,500 grant may be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible homes and the installer applies.

Air source heat pumps in Henwood: the local picture

Historic England lists about 4 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Henwood, including Church of St Peter (grade II). That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where needed, we check with Vale of White Horse council, usually the planning authority here. The 2021 Census found about 75% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

Appleton Manor, roughly 1.7 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Period properties close to Church of St Peter can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Henwood is about 3 miles north-west of Abingdon-on-Thames, in Oxfordshire. From the centre of Henwood to the outskirts, our engineers cover air source heat pumps, from a single room to a whole building. Our list for Oxfordshire has 443 entries and Henwood is among them. Guildford, roughly 46 miles off, has its own page on this site.

Every address in OX1 is within our area. If you need air source heat pumps at a property on Cumnor Road, Hill View Lane and White Hill Lane or anywhere close by, we can help. If you’re just outside Henwood, we cover Wootton (1 mile south), Cumnor (1 mile north-west), Chawley (1 mile north), Appleton (2 miles west) and Dean Court (2 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Oxford (5 miles north-east), Didcot (8 miles south-east), Bicester (15 miles north-east) and Abingdon-on-Thames (3 miles south-east).

The process

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can typically work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Henwood.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Owner checks or an engineer?

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

A customer’s words

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
