How air conditioning works in OX1
We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. Common call-outs are for old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient and a business premises that overheats in summer, on ceiling cassettes, ducted systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

How to get a quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Air conditioning around OX1
From Oxford, St John Street area and St. Ebbes outwards, OX1 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.
St John Street area: Homes near Pusey House Chapel are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. If you commute from Oxford station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed.
Why deal with it now?
Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can normally heat as well, so it works for you in winter as well.
What your quote should include
- Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
What the work involves, system by system
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Larger buildings may suit VRF, which runs many indoor units from shared outdoor units. VRF and larger commercial jobs are priced after a survey and the quote sets out the design.
Multi-split systems
A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit. It’s a neat answer when space outside is limited and several rooms need it, with each room controlled separately.
Let and managed properties
If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so each one has its own history.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too in OX1 and across Oxfordshire. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.
What we’re called out for in OX1
Many people try a portable unit first. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window can’t close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. A fixed split system puts the compressor outside.
Look out for these signs:
- Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- A study or office that overheats during the day
- A business premises that overheats in summer
Common questions in OX1
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
What warranty do I get?
It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.
Do I need planning permission?
It depends on the system and the property. Heat pumps on houses in England can be permitted development when they meet set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, while a unit that only cools isn’t covered and needs checking with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
