About air conditioning in OX2
We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, VRF systems and multi-split systems, and people most often call us about a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and an old system that needs replacing.
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you’ll pay
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
What you get with us
- MCS certification for heat pump work
- We diagnose before we treat
- A fixed price before any work starts
- Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
Get a fixed-price quote
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Air conditioning around OX2
In OX2, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
OX2 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.
Walton Manor: If you commute from Oxford station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed. Holywell Manor (roughly 1 mile south-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
What happens if it’s left?
If you are thinking about air conditioning for a property in OX2, there’s no need to wait for a heatwave. Installation takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer, and we agree a date that suits you once you are happy with the quote.
Comparing quotes
- What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
- Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
Looking after it afterwards
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Keep the room closed while it runs
- Do not cover or box in the outdoor unit
- Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
The work area is left tidy: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Outside, the pipework is neatly fixed and protected, so the job looks as tidy as it works.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.
Honest limits
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
Common problems we fix in OX2
Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.
Look out for these signs:
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
- A loft conversion that is too warm to use
- An old system that needs replacing
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
Questions from OX2
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
We agree it with you on the survey. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.
Does air conditioning work as heating?
Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
