Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in North Oxford
An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Eligibility depends on the property, so we confirm it before anything is agreed. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, underfloor heating and air-to-water heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are moving away from fossil-fuel heating and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump.
Whether a home near North Oxford has mains gas makes a difference to the grant. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

What happens if it’s left?
From 1 April 2027, VAT on heat pumps in homes rises from 0% to 5%. If you’re thinking about a heat pump, that date is worth knowing alongside your own plans for the property. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.
No two properties are the same, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.
Why people in North Oxford choose us

When it’s something else
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
- Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Underfloor heating
- Radiator systems
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Hot water cylinders
- Air-to-air heat pumps
How it works
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Because we plan from photos or a survey, a job in North Oxford can usually be finished in one visit.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
Before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Tell us about parking and loading
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
Getting a price
Every quote shows the VAT clearly, with the rate that applies to your job. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
Advice
North Oxford questions
Is the heat pump grant available in North Oxford?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: North Oxford is in England, where it applies. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and isn’t an add-on to a boiler. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Do you cover smaller places like North Oxford?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need and the fixed price is built on it.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.
How long will it take to install a heat pump?
A typical installation takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We plan the work so you’re without heating for as little time as possible and agreed before work begins.
How soon will you get back to me?
On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Homes in North Oxford and heat pumps
The North Oxford Victorian Suburb Conservation Area is within about a third of a mile of the centre of North Oxford. In the mile around North Oxford’s centre, 4 conservation areas have been designated. Diamond Cottages, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 18 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around North Oxford’s centre. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where necessary, we check with Oxford City council, normally the planning authority here. VOA council tax data put about 37% of homes in the North Oxford area before 1919. In older homes, the heat loss calculation is especially important, as solid walls and draughts change the size of heat pump needed.
Older homes near Church of St Michael and All Angels may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. With Holywell Manor about 1.5 miles south-east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.
