What a heat pump looks like in West Challow

About 31% of homes in West Challow and the neighbourhoods around it have been built since 2000, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures. Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. About 12 listed entries lie within half a mile of central West Challow, Church of St Mary (grade I) among them. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?

Older homes near Church of St Laurence may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. Every heat pump design starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

Air source heat pumps in West Challow, done properly

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in West Challow and the rest of Oxfordshire. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We will explain which type fits your home and why. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, radiator systems and underfloor heating, and the jobs we see most are working out whether radiators need upsizing and an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life.

For a home around West Challow that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Why deal with it now?

The extra £1,500 for homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas is available until March 2027. For homes that qualify, that’s a reason to look into it now. Booking before summer means the work in West Challow is done before the hot weather.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us for straight advice and a fixed price.

West Challow: your questions answered

Is West Challow within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Is the heat pump grant available in West Challow?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: West Challow is in England, where it applies. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before the grant. Eligible homes in England and Wales can get £7,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and we confirm eligibility before you commit.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. At the lower temperatures a heat pump uses, radiators need more surface, and the survey checks each one.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.

What the work involves, system by system

Radiators and underfloor heating

Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators may need to be larger, and the survey checks each one.

Hot water cylinders

An older cylinder may not suit a heat pump and we tell you if it needs replacing.

How it works

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to West Challow.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated record, with F-Gas records wherever refrigerant work is involved, so you can show what was done and when.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
