Air source heat pumps for Kencot

Air source heat pumps in Kencot

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Kencot and the rest of Oxfordshire. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We help you work out which suits your home. Common call-outs are for deciding on the outdoor unit position and checking emitters for a heat pump, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, hot water cylinders and air-to-air heat pumps.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Kencot, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

What we do, step by step

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can typically work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Kencot.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Advice

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • The size of the job
  • What state the existing equipment is in

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • The make and model of the system, from the label

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Air source heat pumps in Kencot: the local picture

Census 2021 figures found about 69% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Kelmscott Manor lies about 4 miles south. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Peter, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

What air conditioning won’t do

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply

Not sure which it is? You can ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Kencot

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Kencot?

Kencot is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Can I fit a heat pump in Kencot without planning permission?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. There’s a conservation area, the Alvescot Conservation Area, close to central Kencot. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Kencot, normally West Oxfordshire council).

Do you protect the property while you work?

Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before work begins, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Is Kencot in your area?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Kencot.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Which type of heat pump is right for my home?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling, and we help you choose. Both are part of what we install.

For landlords and property managers

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Oxfordshire. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building to keep disruption down.

If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Each property gets its own records, so the files stay tidy.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
