St. Ebbes questions

Is the heat pump grant available in St. Ebbes?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including St. Ebbes, if they qualify. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.

Do you cover smaller places like St. Ebbes?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Do you work on all makes?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

About our air source heat pumps in St. Ebbes

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in St. Ebbes and the rest of Oxfordshire. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. The work covers hot water cylinders, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and air-to-water heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are comparing heat pump types and moving away from fossil-fuel heating.

Older homes around St. Ebbes can be draughty or have solid walls, which a heat loss calculation will show. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

The process

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. On site, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Photos of the room and the outside wall help us plan a job near St. Ebbes.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Owner checks or an engineer?

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:

  • What state the existing equipment is in
  • How many units are involved
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

Simple jobs can often be priced from photos and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
  • The address and the type of property

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Heat pumps in St. Ebbes: local notes

The Central (City and University) Conservation Area lies close to the centre of St. Ebbes, within about a third of a mile. 6 conservation areas lie within a mile of central St. Ebbes. Historic England lists about 721 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of St. Ebbes, including Pembroke College (grade I). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the local planning authority (typically Oxford City council) before the heat pump design is finished. About 42% of homes in and around St. Ebbes were built before 1919, according to VOA council tax data, and the last census (2021) found about 48% of households live in flats. In older homes, the heat loss calculation is especially important, as solid walls and draughts change the size of heat pump needed. In flats, space for an outdoor unit and a cylinder can be limited, and the lease and freeholder come into it, so air-to-air is sometimes the better fit.

Historic houses such as Holywell Manor, about 0.7 miles north-east, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. If your home is one of the older properties near St Ebbe's Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

Looking after it afterwards

Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:

  • Use the settings explained at handover
  • Keep radiators clear
  • Seal draughts where you can

In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit runs a defrost cycle from time to time. You might see steam or hear the unit change note, and that is normal.

Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.
