How air conditioning works in OX9

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation are all included, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ducted systems, and common reasons people get in touch are an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers and an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life.

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

What affects the price in OX9

No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all make a difference.

Air conditioning across OX9

In OX9, we install in places such as Thame, Tetsworth and Postcombe and well beyond. Every place on our OX9 list (11 in all) is covered.

Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, with a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns.

Thame: Older streets near Church of St Mary may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. With historic houses such as Adwell House about 3.9 miles south, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

What air conditioning cannot fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)

Why it fails

Not everyone is after cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, which means more heat out than electricity in. Most modern split systems work this way.

The things we’re asked about most are:

  • An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm
  • An old system that needs replacing
  • A loft conversion that’s too warm to use

What owners can safely do

Write down what you notice: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Rented and managed buildings

Records are where property maintenance often slips. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Tell us who the contact on site is and who should receive the paperwork, and we will keep everyone informed.

OX9 questions

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

There’s no single best type. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

How quickly will you reply?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Usually, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

How do you keep the place clean during the work?

Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.

Is OX9 in your area?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes OX9.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls and the lease will say. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
