Air source heat pumps near East Hendred

What air source heat pumps cannot fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
  • A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules

If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749 and we will say what we think.

Air source heat pumps in East Hendred, done properly

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home; adding it alongside a boiler does not qualify. If the problem is checking whether planning permission is needed and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump, we can sort it out.

Older and listed homes in villages like East Hendred need extra care, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Air source heat pumps in East Hendred: the local picture

About 42% of homes across East Hendred and its surrounding area have been built since 2000, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and Census 2021 figures found about 70% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Period properties close to Church of St Augustine of Canterbury can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. Every heat pump design starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

Leave it or put it right?

The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water heats radiators and hot water, and can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions. We explain which makes sense for you. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are unsure, call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Questions from East Hendred

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in East Hendred?

The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. The centre of East Hendred is in the East Hendred Conservation Area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the planning department at Vale of White Horse council, normally the authority for East Hendred.

Is the heat pump grant available in East Hendred?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including East Hendred, if they qualify. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns that cannot wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.

Is East Hendred in your area?

Yes. Our engineers work in East Hendred, as part of our area across London and the South East. Our base is in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

What we do, step by step

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. The visit takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to East Hendred so we arrive with what’s needed.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it

How to get a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Advice

System by system

VAT on heat pumps

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5% following HMRC’s rules on energy-saving materials. It doesn’t apply to businesses.

Air-to-air heat pumps

The £2,500 grant for air-to-air applies only when the system replaces the fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s demand. It must be installed by an MCS certified installer and be in a home.
