Air source heat pumps across Forest Hill

Air source heat pumps in Forest Hill, done properly

An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Not every home qualifies, so we check eligibility before you commit. The work covers radiator systems, air-to-air heat pumps and hot water cylinders, and people most often call us about working out whether radiators need upsizing and finding a place for the outdoor unit.

Older and listed homes in villages like Forest Hill need extra care, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.

Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

What a heat pump looks like in Forest Hill

The last census (2021) found about 77% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

With Garsington Manor about 3.6 miles south, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump. Older homes near Church of St Nicholas may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

How the job changes from property to property

Radiators and underfloor heating

Underfloor heating suits a heat pump’s lower flow temperature, and we can connect to it where it’s already in.

Air-to-water heat pumps

The price for air-to-water is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. A £7,500 grant may be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible homes and the installer applies.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Forest Hill

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed-price quote.

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we will copy in whoever needs it.

Forest Hill: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Forest Hill?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Will a heat pump in Forest Hill need planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Forest Hill is a short walk from the Forest Hill Conservation Area. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Forest Hill, usually South Oxfordshire council) first.

How quickly will you reply?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water replaces the boiler for heating and hot water, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms. The survey helps decide. We install both types.

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.

What air conditioning won’t do

Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council
  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

If you are not sure, just call 07833 053749 or send an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps

How the visit works

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. If a lane or gateway near Forest Hill is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

How to prepare

  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in

To help us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Once you have those, call us on 07833 053749 or send an email.
