Air source heat pumps in Farmoor, done properly
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. Air-to-air systems do not heat hot water, so you will need another way to do that. The work covers underfloor heating, radiator systems and air-to-water heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are questions about where the outdoor unit can go and comparing heat pump types.
For a home around Farmoor that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.
Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Farmoor: your questions answered
Will a heat pump in Farmoor need planning permission?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The half-mile around the middle of Farmoor holds about 3 listed buildings and structures. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Vale of White Horse council, usually the authority for Farmoor first.
Do you cover smaller places like Farmoor?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
When will I hear back?
On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Is there VAT on a heat pump?
For homes, currently none: until 31 March 2027 the rate is 0% in residential accommodation, then 5%. The relief isn’t available to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Heat pumps in Farmoor: local notes
Census 2021 figures found about 80% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Older homes near St Mary's Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. Appleton Manor, roughly 3.5 miles south, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings.

- Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
- Tax advice on your own circumstances
- Improving the building’s insulation

What we do, step by step
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Work in Farmoor is booked in advance at a time that suits you.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
Get a fixed-price quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.
Advice
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Oxfordshire. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.
Keeping the system healthy
A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Keep the outdoor unit clear all year
- Find out the grant position at the survey
- Keep up with insulation and draught-proofing
If you were eligible for a grant, we handle the application and keep you updated since the grant goes through the installer.
Let the heat pump run steadily rather than switching it on and off as explained at handover.
What a customer said
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
