Air source heat pumps near North Leigh

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in North Leigh

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day, so the heat pump and the radiators or indoor units can be sized properly. Sizing by rule of thumb is not good enough. If you’re dealing with working out where a cylinder could go and finding a place for the outdoor unit, we can help.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near North Leigh, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

How the visit works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in North Leigh.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. We install, commission and register the system under MCS.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area

Getting a price

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Advice

Air source heat pumps around North Leigh

The 2021 Census found about 74% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

Blenheim Palace, roughly 3.9 miles north-east, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Older homes near St Mary's Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

For landlords and property managers

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed-price quote.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Oxfordshire. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building to keep disruption down.

What the work involves, system by system

Air-to-water heat pumps

Air-to-water systems work at lower temperatures than boilers, which is why radiator sizing is part of the survey.

Air-to-air heat pumps

A £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is available for air-to-air only if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the full heating demand. It also has to be fitted by an MCS certified installer, in a home.

North Leigh questions

Will you come out to North Leigh?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in North Leigh?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The half-mile around the middle of North Leigh holds about 18 listed buildings and structures. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with West Oxfordshire council, which is usually the planning authority for North Leigh.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.

Which brands do you work with?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

Does the grant cover air-to-air heat pumps?

The air-to-air grant is £2,500, and only some homes qualify. It must replace fossil-fuel heating and meet the full heating demand of a home, installed by an MCS certified installer.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

As a guide, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.

How soon will you get back to me?

You’ll hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

What air conditioning will not do

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Formal advice on VAT for your situation
  • A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules

If you are not sure, just ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will give you a straight answer.
