Air source heat pumps in Finstock
A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If you are dealing with wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump, we can sort it out.
For a home around Finstock that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

Homes in Finstock and heat pumps
The last census (2021) found about 75% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. The middle of Finstock is part of the Finstock Conservation Area. In the mile around Finstock’s centre, 3 conservation areas have been designated. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 25 within half a mile of the centre, such as Finstock Manor House (grade II*). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?
Historic houses such as Minster Lovell Hall, about 3.8 miles south-west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. Older homes near Church of the Holy Trinity may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

What happens on the day
Protection comes first: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes, and we clear up before we go. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Finstock.
- It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
- We install, commission and register the system under MCS.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about parking and loading
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.
Advice
Why act early in Finstock
The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water heats radiators and hot water, and can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions, and we explain which fits your home. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will talk you through it.

When something else is needed
In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
- Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Formal advice on VAT for your situation

Finstock questions
Do you cover smaller places like Finstock?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Finstock?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Finstock, if they qualify. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
It varies from room to room. The survey compares each radiator with the room’s needs, so the quote covers any changes.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?
It depends on the property and where the unit goes. Flats have tighter limits, conservation areas add conditions, and Article 4 directions can remove rights and we look at it during the survey.
What’s the price of a heat pump installation?
Air-to-water work is in the £8,000–£16,000 range (0% VAT on homes), with any grant still to come off. Where you land depends on the size of heat pump, any radiators that need changing and the hot water cylinder, and air-to-air systems are priced after a survey.
For landlords and property managers
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the paperwork can go to both.
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.
A customer’s words
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
