Air conditioning repair across Hampshire: what to expect

A sealed system shouldn’t lose refrigerant, so if it’s low, there’s a leak. Topping up without a repair only delays the next breakdown. We find and fix the leak, pressure test, evacuate and recharge to the manufacturer’s charge and write it up in the F-Gas records. The work covers ceiling cassettes, heat pumps and VRF systems, and common reasons people get in touch are a suspected refrigerant leak and rattling, buzzing or grinding noises.

Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. The visit takes an hour or two to diagnose most faults, with the repair time depending on what we find.

  1. Diagnose: test the system until the cause is clear.
  2. Next, a plain explanation and a fixed price.
  3. Where a repair does not make sense, you will hear it from us, with the alternatives.
  4. Treat: carry out the repair, sealing any leak before refrigerant goes back in.
  5. Sign off: prove it works and record the visit.

What affects the price in Hampshire

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Air conditioning repair around Hampshire

Across Hampshire, the common faults are blocked filters and drains, leaks and failed fans or sensors.

Message us from anywhere in Hampshire and you will hear back the same working day. For a breakdown, use the 24/7 line. In the coastal parts of Hampshire, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing.

Basingstoke: Shops and offices around Basingstoke station often can’t wait for cooling to come back, which is what the 24/7 line is for. For a school like King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery, urgent repairs can be booked straight away and bigger work in the holidays.

What we are called out for in Hampshire

A unit that runs but does not cool has a few usual suspects: a blocked filter, the wrong mode or set temperature, an outdoor unit that can’t breathe, a failed sensor or board, or low refrigerant from a leak. Diagnosis narrows it down.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • A suspected refrigerant leak
  • A unit that won’t start
  • Rattling, buzzing or grinding noises
  • Frost on the pipework

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Only let an F-Gas qualified engineer work on the refrigerant
  • Let any ice thaw before the engineer arrives
  • Note any error code, or take a photo of the display
  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends

If the same symptom comes back, tell us straight away. Describe what’s happening and any error code and we’ll come back to it.

Book an annual service. The engineer cleans what you can’t reach and picks up problems before they cause a breakdown and that is typically simpler than a breakdown repair.

System by system

Ducted and cassette systems

With ducted and cassette units, most of the system is hidden in the ceiling, so access matters. Many have condensate pumps, and pump failures are a common cause of ceiling leaks.

Condensate drains and pumps

The drain is cleared, the pump tested and the fall checked until the condensate runs away properly. Failed pumps are replaced and test it before we leave.

How we price air conditioning repair

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How many units are involved
  • Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system

Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.

What to send for a quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Your questions about air conditioning repair in Hampshire

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Do you have a 24/7 line for breakdowns?

Yes, day and night. Urgent cases include water leaking through a ceiling or a server or comms room overheating and we’ll tell you what to do first. The number is 07833 053749.

My system uses R410A. Can it still be repaired?

Yes, repairs and recharges on existing R410A systems remain legal. As the GB phase-down continues, R410A is getting harder and dearer to buy and we talk through repair against replacement for older systems.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

How much is an air conditioning call-out?

It starts with a diagnosis call-out from £75 + VAT, followed by a fixed price for the repair. Nothing goes ahead without your agreement.
