Air conditioning in SO22: how it works
Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, while a two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation are all included, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. Typical jobs include an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life and a loft conversion that’s too warm to use, across multi-split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ceiling cassettes.
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.
What you’ll pay
The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
Why book with us
- F-Gas company certification
- Checkatrade member
- A fixed price before any work starts
- One contact for properties across the South East and London
Get a fixed-price quote
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
What’s near Winchester
Typical jobs here are in properties near St Bede Church of England Primary School, Leigh House Hospital and Peter Symonds College. You will also find St. Cross Park (1 mile south), St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate Church (less than half a mile east) and The Green Man pub (within half a mile north-west). Winchester’s nearest station is Winchester station, roughly 0.6 miles north of the centre. A little further out are Winchester City Museum (less than half a mile north-east) and St John's Rooms And Chapel (less than half a mile east). Green spaces nearby include Winnall Moors and Twyford Down.
Where we install in SO22
From Winchester, Hyde and Weeke outwards, SO22 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote.
Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.
Winchester: If you commute from Winchester station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
What affects the quote in SO22
Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:
- Access, including height, roofs and ladders
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.
Helping us quote
Good photos often save a visit. Try to include:
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, call 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
System by system
Ceiling cassettes
Cassettes need space above the ceiling and a route for the condensate, and many use a built-in condensate pump to lift the water away. The survey confirms the void and the drain route.
Ducted systems
With a ducted system, the indoor unit sits out of sight above the ceiling, and all you see is a discreet grille. It’s popular where people don’t want a unit on the wall.
What we’re called out for in SO22
Not everyone is after cooling. Direct electric heaters convert electricity into heat one for one, while an air-to-air heat pump moves heat from outside, which means more heat out than electricity in. Most modern split systems work this way.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
- A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
Owner checks or an engineer?
Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.
Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
SO22: your questions answered
Do you cover SO22?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, and that includes SO22.
Will I need planning permission?
Not always. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it usually comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Does air conditioning work as heating?
Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
Usually, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
Do you protect the property while you work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and we tidy up as we go. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
When will I hear back?
The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
