Air conditioning in SO32: how it works
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi are among the brands we fit. We recommend a model on the survey and explain why it suits the room, along with the manufacturer’s warranty terms on your quote. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, and people most often call us about rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient.
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
- Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
- Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
- Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
What you will pay
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before we start.
Why choose AirCon Doctor
- Diagnosis first, then a fixed price
- A site survey and a fixed-price quote
- Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
- 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns
Getting a price
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Bishop's Waltham: Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are typically the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start. Homes near Church of St Peter are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
Aftercare tips
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Leave space around the outdoor unit
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
- Close windows and doors while the system is cooling
- Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.
Honest limits
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
Before you call an engineer
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Why deal with it now?
There’s a tax point for homes: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts and we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
- Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
SO32 questions
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well?
Typically, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
Do you work in SO32?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes SO32.
Is air conditioning possible in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
How soon will you get back to me?
The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
