Our air conditioning service in SO30

Thinking about air conditioning but not sure where to start? Send a few photos of the rooms and the outside walls when you call 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. The work covers VRF systems, wall-mounted split systems and multi-split systems, and people most often call us about a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and a system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement.

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How we quote

Putting several jobs into one visit can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed price.

What you get with us

  • Leading brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu
  • Members of Checkatrade
  • Emergency calls taken 24/7
  • NICEIC approved for electrical work

How to get a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Around Hedge End

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Wildern School, Church of St John the Evangelist and Shamblehurst Primary School. For rail, the closest station is Hedge End station, roughly 1.2 miles north of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Netley Castle (3.6 miles south-west) and Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum (2 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Netley Common.

Air conditioning across SO30: local notes

In SO30, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

SO30 is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. You reach the same people wherever you are in it. Near the coast in SO30, outdoor units last longer with shelter from sea wind and a yearly service.

Hedge End: Living close to Church of St John the Evangelist? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. South Stoneham House (roughly 3.5 miles north-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

What air conditioning cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Draughts and missing insulation
  • Central heating repairs
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

Different systems, different jobs

Electrical supply

A dedicated circuit is normally needed. We are NICEIC approved, so we fit and certify the circuit ourselves and that covers the Part P side.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, such as a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange and prepare for it.

Let and managed properties

Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.

Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We can quote either party, and the paperwork can go to both.

Why it fails

Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and the heat lingers long after the sun has moved round.

If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Expensive direct electric heating
  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • An old system that needs replacing

SO30 questions

What warranty do I get?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some brands make regular servicing a condition so it’s worth keeping the service records.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

How long will the installation take?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.

Which type of air conditioning is best?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

How do you size the system?

We size each room on the survey, from its size, glazing, orientation and use. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy, so we explain why we’ve chosen a particular output.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.
