Air conditioning in Hampshire

Our air conditioning service in Hampshire

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. The work covers ceiling cassettes, VRF systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are a portable unit with a hose out of the window and too many options and no clear advice.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

How we quote

The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, the access and what the work involves. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Why choose AirCon Doctor

Getting a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Around Basingstoke

Around Basingstoke, our work takes us to homes and businesses near King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery, Cranbourne and Eastrop Park and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Rising Sun pub (0.5 miles north-east), St Michael's Church (0.5 miles east) and The Costello School (1 mile east). The closest station to Basingstoke is Basingstoke station, about 0.6 miles east. Nearby you will also find Basing House (2.2 miles east) and The Malls (0.6 miles east). For a walk, there’s Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

Air conditioning across Hampshire: local notes

Across Hampshire, from Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

Message us from anywhere in Hampshire and you will hear back the same working day. For a breakdown, use the 24/7 line. Near the coast in Hampshire, outdoor units last longer with shelter from sea wind and a yearly service.

Basingstoke: If you commute from Basingstoke station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed. Homes near St Michael's Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.

What the work involves, system by system

Outdoor unit positions

The outdoor unit can go on a wall bracket, on the ground or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs airflow around it and room for servicing.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, such as a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange the inspection and get the system ready for it.

Why deal with it now?

If you are thinking about air conditioning for a property in Hampshire, there’s no need to wait for a heatwave. The installation takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems, and we agree a date that suits you after you’ve accepted the fixed price.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
  • What’s in the price and what is not
  • Whether extra work needs your approval first

What owners can safely do

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Looking after your system

Aftercare is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
  • Shut doors and windows when it’s on
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit

The work area is left tidy: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Outside, the pipework is neatly fixed and protected, so the job looks as tidy as it works.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

Your questions about air conditioning in Hampshire

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Long pipe runs, difficult access, a new circuit and premium indoor units push the price up, while commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.

Will you need to do electrical work?

Typically, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.

How soon will you get back to me?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Which accreditations do you hold?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, and we are Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
