Air conditioning in Cove

How we handle air conditioning in Cove

We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. Which one suits you depends on the space, the building and how much of the unit you want to see, and we explain the options on the survey. Most split systems we fit in Cove are reversible: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.

A single room takes a day in most homes, with multi-room systems taking longer depending on pipe routes, and we leave the room clean and the controls explained.

In a smaller place like Cove, most installs are in houses and cottages, often with gardens, which usually leaves room for an outdoor unit. The bigger questions are the wall construction and the route back to the consumer unit.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We will explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

The process

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first so it doesn’t catch you out. For businesses, we can normally work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. Send pictures of the space and the outside wall, and we can plan the work near Cove.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Ask for a quote

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in Cove

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders
  • How many units are involved

A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Before you get in touch

Good pictures often save a visit. Try to include:

  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • The fuse board and where it is in the property

Different systems, different jobs

Outdoor unit positions

Where outside space is tight, the outdoor unit position shapes the whole design. We look at walls, roofs, balconies and yards on the survey, and tell you about any permissions you may need.

Electrical supply

Most systems need their own circuit from the consumer unit. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate and that covers the Part P side.

Air conditioning in Cove: the local picture

Census 2021 figures found about 72% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.

Around St John the Baptist, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are typically the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start.

Your questions about air conditioning in Cove

Is Cove within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in Cove?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The centre of Cove is in a conservation area. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with Rushmoor council, which is typically the planning authority for Cove.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always look before we price, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. A fixed-price quote follows.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

Will you make a mess?

Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.

What a customer said

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
