Air conditioning in Houghton

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Houghton

The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. We look at each room’s size, glazing, orientation and use, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run before you get a fixed-price quote. Looking for air con installers near Houghton? AirCon Doctor works across London and the South East from East Grinstead, with a fixed-price quote before any work starts.

The outdoor unit position is the biggest single decision: we balance airflow, noise, the pipe run and access for future servicing.

Villages like Houghton often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

What happens on the day

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can usually work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to Houghton.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

FAQs for Houghton

Do you cover smaller places like Houghton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can you do air conditioning in Houghton?

We do: Houghton falls inside our working area. To start, ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line with a few pictures.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Long pipe runs, difficult access, a new circuit and premium indoor units push the price up, while commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

Normally, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

Which brands do you work with?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

Homes in Houghton and air conditioning

Houghton’s centre falls inside the Houghton and Bossington Conservation Area. Historic England lists about 27 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Houghton, including Old Rectory (grade II*). If your property is listed or sits inside a conservation area, expect us to raise planning at the survey and to speak to Test Valley council, typically the planning authority here where it’s needed. The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures put about 37% of homes in the Houghton area before 1919, and about 83% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Older homes often have solid walls, which take longer to core drill, so we plan pipe routes carefully and keep them as discreet as we can. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.

Living close to Church of All Saints? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

Leave it or put it right?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. Getting the date in early helps for a place like Houghton.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are unsure, ring 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Signs you need air conditioning in Houghton

Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. The roof takes the full force of the sun, and warm air rises from the floors below, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.

These are the situations we see most often:

  • A room that’s unbearable on warm days
  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
  • An old system that needs replacing

Mottisfont Abbey (roughly 3.2 miles south) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
  • What paperwork you will receive afterwards
  • Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
