Managing agents and facilities teams in Houghton
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed-price quote.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the paperwork can go to both.
Air source heat pumps in Houghton
We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day, so the heat pump and the radiators or indoor units can be sized properly. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. If the problem is deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home and working out whether radiators need upsizing, we can help.
Older and listed homes in villages like Houghton need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.
The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Houghton
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Houghton?
Houghton is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Is Houghton within the area you cover?
Yes. Houghton is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.
Do you protect the property while you work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Houghton
The survey or diagnosis tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- Access, including height, roofs and ladders
- What kind of system it is
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.
What to send for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
How it works
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your pictures or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Houghton easier.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
Ask for a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from photos and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
There’s one grant per property, and you cannot get a grant to replace a low-carbon system, and hybrid systems are not eligible.
Air-to-air heat pumps
Since 2025, air-to-air heat pumps can also be permitted development in England, subject to the conditions. Cooling-only units are not included and need a check with the council.
Homes in Houghton and heat pumps
Houghton’s centre falls inside the Houghton and Bossington Conservation Area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 27 within half a mile of the centre, such as Old Rectory (grade II*). For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (usually Test Valley council) where needed. VOA council tax data put about 37% of homes in the Houghton area before 1919, and the last census (2021) found about 83% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Older homes can lose heat faster, so a room-by-room heat loss calculation, and sometimes insulation or larger radiators, comes before sizing a heat pump. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
Historic houses such as Mottisfont Abbey, about 3.2 miles south, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. Live in one of the older houses around Church of All Saints? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
