What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

Your quote is based on your property. We consider:

  • How easy the units are to reach
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed

The cost depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Before you get in touch

Simple jobs can often be priced from photos and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • The address and the type of property
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed

To get a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. A few photos make it quicker. We reply to enquiries the same working day.

Air source heat pumps in Andover, done properly

Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes, and the quote sets it out. If the problem is questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and checking whether planning permission is needed, we can help.

Plenty of older homes in Andover can run on a heat pump, though some need bigger radiators or better insulation first. The heat loss calculation shows what’s needed.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Homes in Andover and heat pumps

About 63 miles out from central London, Andover is part of the South East area we work across.

If your home is near Andover station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Mary? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Andover

Can I fit a heat pump in Andover without planning permission?

It depends on the property. The Andover Conservation Area is close to the centre of Andover. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with Test Valley council, which is typically the planning authority for Andover.

Is the heat pump grant available in Andover?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Andover, if they qualify. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Is Andover in your area?

Yes. Andover is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East. We are based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

Some radiators may be fine as they are, and some may need to be larger. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.

Do you protect the property while you work?

Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and we tidy up as we go. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

What happens on the day

The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes, and we clear up before we go. Three things shape a visit in Andover: parking, access to the outside of the building and when suits you.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you’re hoping for.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

Advice

What air source heat pumps can’t fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different answer:

  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 and we will say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Radiator systems

Safe owner checks

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

What a customer said

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
