Air conditioning for Knowle

Signs you need air conditioning in Knowle

Poor sleep is one of the most common reasons homeowners ask about air conditioning. Once a bedroom has soaked up heat during the day, opening a window may not bring the temperature down far enough, particularly when there’s no breeze.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
  • Too many options and no clear advice

Living close to Church of St Francis? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

For a home in or near Knowle, an air-to-air system can cool in summer and heat in the cooler months, which suits rooms the main heating doesn’t reach well, such as a garden room or loft.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed-price quote.

Homes in Knowle and air conditioning

VOA council tax data show about 53% of homes in the Knowle area were built in 2000 or later, and the 2021 Census found about 61% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes usually have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have space for the outdoor unit, and several rooms can share one on a multi-split. About 4 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Knowle, Knowle Hospital Chapel (grade II) among them. Heritage protection changes what an install can involve, so the survey looks at your address first and tells you plainly whether consent is likely.

Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are usually the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start.

When it’s something else

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what air conditioning won’t do:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send an email and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Multi-split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • VRF systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

What we do, step by step

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Knowle.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in

Knowle: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Knowle?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Is Knowle in your area for air conditioning?

Yes, Knowle is within the area we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Under Part P, a new circuit has to be notified unless a registered competent person does it, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

A customer’s words

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
