Air conditioning in Rooksdown, done properly

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Air con, air conditioning, a split system: whatever you call it, in Rooksdown it means the same thing to us: the right unit in the right place, fitted and commissioned properly.

In a smaller place like Rooksdown, most installs are in houses and cottages, often with gardens, so there’s normally space for the outdoor unit. The bigger questions are the wall construction and the route back to the consumer unit.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

Rooksdown questions

Will you come out to Rooksdown?

Yes. Rooksdown is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Rooksdown?

It depends on the property. Central Rooksdown is a short walk from the Park Prewett Conservation Area. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that are not used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Basingstoke and Deane council, normally the authority for Rooksdown.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.

What accreditations do you have?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We’ll tell you what to check before we fit it.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

The process

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Around Rooksdown, access is usually simple, though gates and garden access are worth mentioning.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Ask for a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, pictures of the rooms or units, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, call 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in Rooksdown

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where

Putting several jobs into one visit often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed price.

Helping us quote

Good photos often save a visit. The most useful are:

  • Your consumer unit or fuse board
  • Your installation or service records
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on

For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. A few pictures make it quicker. We reply to enquiries the same working day.

When something else is needed

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)

If you are not sure, just phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work involves, system by system

Outdoor unit positions

On flats and terraced houses, space outside is often the deciding factor. We look at walls, roofs, balconies and yards on the survey, and tell you about any permissions you may need.

Electrical supply

Most systems need their own circuit from the consumer unit. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate, which takes care of the Part P notification.

Homes in Rooksdown and air conditioning

Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 47% of homes in the Rooksdown area were built in 2000 or later, and the 2021 Census found about 41% of households in terraced houses. Newer homes normally have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. With a terrace, the back wall or an extension roof is normally the best place for the outdoor unit.

About 2.2 miles north-east stands The Vyne. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. Most people start with the room that gets hottest, then add more rooms on a multi-split if needed.
