About air conditioning in BH24

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. The work covers ducted systems, air-to-air heat pumps and multi-split systems, and the jobs we see most are expensive direct electric heating and bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer.

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. The visit takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

How we quote

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

What you get with us

  • One contact for properties across the South East and London
  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • A 24/7 emergency line
  • Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba and more

Getting a price

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Near you in Ringwood

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to The Lamb Inn, Ringwood Church of England Infant School and Ringwood Waldorf School, among other places. You’ll also find Avon Heath Country Park (2 miles south-west), Ringwood School (less than half a mile north-west) and Trinity Congregational Church (under half a mile south-west). Nearby you’ll also find St Leonard's Hospital (3.9 miles south-west). For a walk, there’s Blashford Lakes and Linbrook Lake.

Air conditioning across BH24

From Ringwood, St Leonards and Poulner outwards, BH24 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.

Ringwood: Avon Tyrrell House (roughly 3.6 miles south-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Homes near Trinity Congregational Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)

Why it fails

Poor sleep is one of the most common reasons homeowners ask about air conditioning. An open window doesn’t always cool a bedroom that has warmed up all day, particularly when there’s no breeze.

Common reasons people call us are:

  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
  • A study or office that overheats during the day
  • Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
  • Fans and portables that don’t keep up

Looking after your system

How well a system lasts depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
  • Do not cover or box in the outdoor unit
  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
  • Tell us if the unit starts to leak, rattle or show a code

The handover includes the records you need: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. File them together, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Have the system serviced once a year. A service cleans what you cannot reach and picks up faults before they stop the system, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us.

Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Your questions about air conditioning in BH24

Which type of air conditioning is best?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Normally, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.
