How air conditioning works in SP6
We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. We’re often asked to deal with commercial rooms that are too warm for staff and a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer, across multi-split systems, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

Getting a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
Near you in Fordingbridge
Typical jobs here are in properties near The Burgate School and Sixth Form, Fordingbridge Junior School and The Ship Inn and the streets around them. Well-known places in the area include Godshill Castle Hill (1.6 miles north-east) and Fordingbridge Museum (under half a mile south-east). Green spaces nearby include Blashford Lakes and Linbrook Lake.
Air conditioning across SP6: local notes
Our air conditioning work across SP6 takes in places such as Fordingbridge, Alderholt and Ashford and the smaller places around them. Every place on our SP6 list (30 in all) is covered.
An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval.
Fordingbridge: Homes near St Mary's Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. Breamore House, about 2.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
What owners can safely do
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Leave it or put it right?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. Placing it well keeps noise away from bedrooms and boundaries and makes servicing easier, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
What your quote should include
- Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
- Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
- What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
Looking after your system
So the system stays in good health:
- Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
- Let filters dry fully before you put them back
- Report drips, noises or error codes right away
- Avoid setting it far colder than you need
Commissioning is the last stage: every mode is tested before we go. We check it’s running as the manufacturer intends, then show you the controls and the timer so you know how to get the best from it.
Report drips, noises or error codes early. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault, and early repairs are usually simpler.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what air conditioning won’t do:
- Central heating repairs
- Draughts and missing insulation
- A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
Questions from SP6
How soon will you get back to me?
On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
What size air conditioning unit do I need?
Floor area is only part of it. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it, and we take them all into account on the survey.
Do you work in SP6?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, and that includes SP6.
Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?
Not necessarily. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it typically comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
