Air conditioning in PO13: how it works
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. Common call-outs are for rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in and a loft conversion that’s too warm to use, across wall-mounted split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes.
The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer, and we clear up before we go.
- First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
- Each room is sized and you get a fixed-price quote setting out the equipment and the unit positions.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
Pricing in PO13
What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, the access and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Air conditioning around PO13
Across PO13, from Gosport, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote.
We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, PO13 included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote. In the coastal parts of PO13, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing, and some manufacturers offer corrosion-protected coils.
Lee-on-the-Solent: Living close to Church of St Faith? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Osborne House, about 4.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
Different systems, different jobs
Outdoor unit positions
The outdoor unit can go on a wall bracket, on the ground or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs space around it to breathe and for an engineer to work on it.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange and prepare for it.
Why deal with it now?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg can’t use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.
Questions to ask before you book
- What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
- What records you get at the end
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
What we’re called out for in PO13
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
These are the situations we see most often:
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Working from home in a room that gets too warm
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- A room that’s unbearable on warm days
Before you call an engineer
Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
PO13: your questions answered
When will I hear back?
The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Will you need to do electrical work?
In most cases. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
For some brands, yes. Send us the make and model and we’ll tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
Is air conditioning possible in a flat?
Often, yes, but there are extra steps. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
How much is air conditioning for one room?
Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork, and we fix it after a survey or from your photos.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
How long does it take to fit air conditioning?
Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-split, ducted and cassette systems take longer, and we tell you how long on the quote.
