How air conditioning works in PO10

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Common call-outs are for working from home in a room that gets too warm and old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient, on ducted systems, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and we take it from there. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

How we quote

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits you.

Local landmarks in Emsworth

Typical jobs here are in properties near Bourne Community College, Church of St James and The Kings Arms. You’ll also find Eames Farm (1.4 miles south) and St James Church of England Controlled Primary School (within half a mile north). Emsworth has its own railway station: Emsworth station. Well-known places in the area include Havant War Memorial Hospital (2.2 miles west) and Emsworth Museum (under half a mile south). The countryside around Emsworth includes Brook Meadow (Emsworth).

Where we install in PO10

Across PO10, from Chichester, Emsworth and Denvilles to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote.

Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7. Near the coast in PO10, outdoor units last longer with shelter from sea wind and a yearly service.

Emsworth: Close to Emsworth station? A small study or box room used for work can normally be cooled with a single indoor unit. Around Church of St James, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we will copy in whoever needs it.

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Why deal with it now?

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg can’t use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.

  • Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
  • Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing

What air conditioning cannot fix

Air conditioning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)

Safe owner checks

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

Questions from PO10

How do I know what size unit to get?

Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy, so we explain why we’ve chosen a particular output.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. Then you get a fixed-price quote.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

In most cases, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

How long will the installation take?

It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
