Air conditioning in PO20: how it works
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. The work covers VRF systems, ducted systems and wall-mounted split systems, and the jobs we see most are a system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement and expensive direct electric heating.
The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we tidy up before we leave.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
Pricing in PO20

Getting a quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
Local landmarks in Selsey

Well-known places in the area include Selsey Lifeboat Museum (0.5 miles south-east).
Where we install in PO20
In PO20, we install in places such as Chichester, Selsey and Portfield and well beyond. Every place on our PO20 list (36 in all) is covered.
Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and PO20 sits within it. You reach the same people wherever you are in it. PO20 includes coastal places, where salt in the air speeds up corrosion of outdoor coils and fixings. Outdoor unit position and regular servicing both help near the sea.
Selsey: A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call. Older streets near St Peter's Church may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
Pricing air conditioning in PO20
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We consider:
- The brand, model and parts involved
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is looked at first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.
What we need to know
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
What owners can safely do
Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Let and managed properties
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed-price quote.
Running several properties is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Aftercare tips
To keep the system working properly:
- Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
- Never run the system with the filters out
- Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
The work area is left tidy: dust sheets lifted, offcuts and packaging cleared, and the holes for the pipework sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed, so the job looks as tidy as it works.
Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault, and early repairs are normally simpler.
FAQs for PO20
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Is air conditioning possible in a flat?
Often, yes, but there are extra steps. You will typically need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you protect the property while you work?
We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Do I need planning permission?
It depends on the system and the property. Heat pumps on houses in England can be permitted development when they meet set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, so check with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.
