Commercial air conditioning in East Sussex: how it works

Installation is only the start. Maintenance contracts cover servicing, F-gas leak checks and the records that go with them with the cost agreed up front. Our 24/7 emergency line is there if something goes wrong. The work covers VRF systems, server and comms room cooling and multi-split systems, and people most often call us about work raised by a TM44 inspection and older systems that can’t keep up.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes as long as the site and the system need, from a short install to a phased project planned around opening hours.

  1. We start with the details of the building and the problem.
  2. A site survey confirms the heat load, the layout and the access.
  3. We set out the options, the price and the programme.
  4. Installation goes ahead around the business.
  5. The system is commissioned and maintenance can be arranged.

Business air conditioning across East Sussex

In East Sussex, as across England, larger systems need F-gas leak checks, and TM44 inspections apply over 12 kW.

An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, while NICEIC approval covers the electrical work. Near the coast in East Sussex, outdoor units last longer with shelter from sea wind and a yearly service.

Eastbourne: For a church or hall like St Andrew, any outdoor unit needs the right consents first. If your office near Hampden Park station has a comms or server room, it needs cooling all year, not just in summer.

What the work involves, system by system

Server and comms rooms

Adding a second unit gives resilience and we can explain how they would work together.

Ceiling cassettes

Cassettes leave only the grille on show for a neat finish.

Looking after it afterwards

How well a system lasts depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Leave space around outdoor units
  • Plan the air conditioning alongside the fit-out
  • Keep F-gas records together and up to date
  • Don’t wait for small faults to become breakdowns

We show your team how to use the controls so staff can set it up properly. Getting the settings right helps the system perform.

Planned maintenance is the best way to keep a commercial system healthy. The schedule and cost are fixed up front.

What happens if it’s left?

For most systems from 5 tCO2e upwards, leak checks and records are required by law. Falling behind leaves the operator without the evidence the rules expect, and it’s simpler to keep on schedule with a contract.

Comparing quotes

  • Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
  • If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why

Pricing commercial air conditioning in East Sussex

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:

  • What we find on the survey or diagnosis
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • What kind of system it is
  • The pipe route between the units

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Helping us quote

Good photos often save a visit. The most useful are:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The address and the type of property
  • Your consumer unit or fuse board
  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit

Every quote starts with a look at the job, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

East Sussex questions

Can you do our TM44 air conditioning inspection?

TM44 inspections are carried out by accredited energy assessors, which we are not. We prepare systems for inspection and carry out the work the report recommends.

Do I need planning permission?

That depends on what’s being fitted and where. Heat pumps on houses in England can be permitted development when they meet set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, while a unit that only cools isn’t covered and needs checking with the council. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

What accreditations do you have?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Do you provide ongoing maintenance for businesses?

We do. With a contract, servicing and F-gas checks happen on time and every visit is recorded.
