How air conditioning works in TN32
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, VRF systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are uncertainty over the right type and size of system and expensive direct electric heating.
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.
How we quote
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
Why people in TN32 choose us
- A fixed price before any work starts
- Emergency calls taken 24/7
- Members of Checkatrade
- Clear warranty information from the manufacturer
Getting a price
Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few pictures, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Then give us a ring on 07833 053749 or send an email.
Around Robertsbridge
Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to The Ostrich Hotel, Robertsbridge United Reformed Church and Robertsbridge Community College and the streets around them. Robertsbridge has its own railway station: Robertsbridge station. Nearby you’ll also find Ticehurst House Hospital (5.4 miles north-west). Open spaces near Robertsbridge include Senlac Hill.
Air conditioning across TN32: local notes
From Robertsbridge, Staplecross and Northbridge Street outwards, TN32 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote.
Enquiries from TN32 get a reply on the working day they arrive. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead.
Robertsbridge: Homes near Robertsbridge United Reformed Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. With historic houses such as Durhamford Manor about 3.8 miles south-east, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.
Safe owner checks
Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Why it fails
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Look out for any of the following:
- An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
- A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
- Too many options and no clear advice
- Fans and portables that don’t keep up
Why act early?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
What your quote should include
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
- If the figure could change on the day
- Proof of F-Gas company certification
When something else is needed
We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so here are the limits:
- A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
- Draughts and missing insulation
- Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
TN32: your questions answered
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
Is TN32 in your area?
Yes. We cover TN32 and the rest of East Sussex, within the London and South East area we cover. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.
How do I know what size unit to get?
Floor area is only part of it. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it, and we take them all into account on the survey.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.
