Air conditioning across RH18: what to expect

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Send a few photos of the rooms and the outside walls when you phone 07833 053749, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. The work covers ducted systems, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems, and the jobs we see most are a room that’s unbearable on warm days and commercial rooms that are too warm for staff.

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

What’s near Forest Row

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to Greenfields School, The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity and Forest Row Church of England Primary School and the streets around them. The closest station to Forest Row is East Grinstead station, about 3.2 miles north-west. A little further out are East Grinstead Museum (2.8 miles north-west) and Bolebroke Castle (3.6 miles north-east).

Air conditioning across RH18: local notes

From Forest Row and Wych Cross outwards, RH18 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.

We reply to enquiries from RH18 the same working day, with a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns.

Forest Row: With historic houses such as Standen about 2.3 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Older streets near The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

Managing agents and facilities teams in RH18

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

If you look after several properties, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Every address has its own paperwork, so each one has its own history.

Safe owner checks

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we will tell you before work begins. It will not put right:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Central heating repairs

Common problems we fix in RH18

Poor sleep is one of the most common reasons homeowners ask about air conditioning. Once a bedroom has soaked up heat during the day, opening a window may not bring the temperature down far enough, especially on a still night.

The things we’re asked about most are:

  • Fans and portables that do not keep up
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • Expensive direct electric heating
  • An old system that needs replacing

RH18 questions

What accreditations do you have?

We are an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Will I need planning permission?

Not necessarily. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it usually comes up and the survey picks it up. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which type of air conditioning is best?

It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.
