Air conditioning across BN2: what to expect
Any installation we do in BN2 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Common call-outs are for rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and expensive direct electric heating, across ducted systems, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. On site, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
What you will pay
No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.
Why choose AirCon Doctor

Landmarks near Carlton Hill
Typical jobs here are in properties near Queen's Park, Devonshire Arms and Academy of Creative Training, among other places. Other local landmarks include Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity (under half a mile north), Carlton Hill Primary School (within half a mile north) and Brighton Girls (0.9 miles west). For rail, the closest station is Brighton station, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Sussex Eye Hospital (0.7 miles south-east) and Churchill Square (0.6 miles west). Open spaces near Carlton Hill include Whitehawk Hill and Newmarket Hill.
Air conditioning across BN2
From Brighton, Carlton Hill and Telscombe outwards, BN2 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, while NICEIC approval covers the electrical work. In the coastal parts of BN2, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing, and some manufacturers offer corrosion-protected coils.
Carlton Hill: With historic houses such as Royal Pavilion about 0.3 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. If you commute from Brighton station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed.
What affects the quote in BN2
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will explain what it covers.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- The address and the type of property
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, phone 07833 053749.
Common problems we fix in BN2
Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A business premises that overheats in summer
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
- A room that is unbearable on warm days
Before you call an engineer
Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.
Looking after your system
Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
- Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
- Have the system serviced once a year
- Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
The handover includes the records you need: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. Keep them with the manual, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.
Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing you can do. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, which costs you more to run.
Questions from BN2
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
How do you size the system?
Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. Too small, and it runs flat out; too big, and it switches on and off and wastes energy, so we explain why we have chosen a particular output.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.
What accreditations do you have?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Do I need a new electrical circuit?
Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we’re NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
How long does it take to fit air conditioning?
It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We confirm the time when we quote so there are no surprises.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
