How air conditioning works in BN3

Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, while a two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. The work covers multi-split systems, VRF systems and ducted systems, and common reasons people get in touch are an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers and working from home in a room that gets too warm.

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

Pricing in BN3

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

Where we install in BN3

From Brighton, Hove and West Hill outwards, BN3 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.

Enquiries from BN3 get a reply on the working day they arrive. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead. BN3 includes coastal places, where salt in the air speeds up corrosion of outdoor coils and fixings. Outdoor unit position and regular servicing both help near the sea.

Brighton and Hove: Plenty of people near Aldrington station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. Living close to Holy Cross Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

What we are called out for in BN3

Bedrooms that are too warm at night are a frequent reason for a call. Once a bedroom has soaked up heat during the day, opening a window may not bring the temperature down far enough, especially on a still night.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Too many options and no clear advice
  • A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
  • A study or office that overheats during the day
  • A room that’s unbearable on warm days

System by system

Wall-mounted split systems

Wall-mounted units suit bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and small commercial rooms. The unit goes where it spreads the air well and the filters are easy to reach rather than blowing straight at the bed or desk.

Ducted systems

One ducted unit can serve more than one room through separate ducts and grilles, and they’re easiest to fit while ceilings are open, such as during a refurbishment.

What air conditioning cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)

Before you call an engineer

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and give us a ring on 07833 053749.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

BN3: your questions answered

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. You get a written record of every visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before work begins.

Is BN3 in your area?

Yes. Our engineers work in BN3, within the South East and London area we cover. We’re based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size in BN3 and across Brighton and Hove. Let us know who the records should go to.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.

How quickly will you reply?

You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
