Air con installation in E1

About air conditioning in E1

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. We are often asked to deal with an old system that needs replacing and a home office that warms up with screens and equipment, on ducted systems, air-to-air heat pumps and multi-split systems.

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your photos or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Pricing in E1

What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, the access and what the work involves. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Why people in E1 choose us

  • NICEIC approved electrical contractors
  • 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns

Getting a price

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, E1 included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Shoreditch: Mansion House (roughly 1 mile south-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Around St Leonard's Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.

What the work involves, system by system

Wall-mounted split systems

Wall-mounted units suit bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and small commercial rooms. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access, and away from where the air would blow straight onto people.

Outdoor unit positions

Outdoor units are fitted on wall brackets, at ground level or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs space around it to breathe and for an engineer to work on it.

What owners can safely do

Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

When it’s something else

Air conditioning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:

  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet

Leave it or put it right?

For a home or business in E1, booking the survey now gives time to plan. The installation takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system, and the date is agreed with you after you’ve accepted the fixed price.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
  • Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
  • The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
  • What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day

Your questions about air conditioning in E1

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Do you protect the property while you work?

Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. If something urgent happens, like water coming from a unit or a critical room overheating, call our 24/7 line and we will tell you what to do first.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
