Air con installation in E1W

About air conditioning in E1W

We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and VRF systems, and people most often call us about rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in.

We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

Air conditioning across E1W: local notes

Our air conditioning work across E1W takes in places such as Whitechapel, Spitalfields and Tower Hill and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for E1W, 8 in all.

London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.

Whitechapel: About 0.9 miles west stands Mansion House. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If you work from home near Whitechapel station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

Let and managed properties

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings across Greater London. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.

Looking after your system

Simple habits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Keep the room closed while it runs
  • Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
  • File the paperwork with the manual
  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest

We clear up before we go: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed as agreed on the survey.

Report drips, noises or error codes early. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display normally means something needs attention and catching it early keeps the repair small.

When something else is needed

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)

Common problems we fix in E1W

Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Keeping staff and customers comfortable is normally what prompts the call, along with keeping equipment rooms at a steady temperature.

It’s time to call us if you’re dealing with:

  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
  • A loft conversion that’s too warm to use
  • A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement

Common questions in E1W

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

Floor area is only part of it. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which type of system should I choose?

It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.
