Air con installation in SE23

Our air conditioning service in SE23

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. The work covers VRF systems, ducted systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer and working from home in a room that gets too warm.

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. On site, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

Air conditioning across SE23

From Sydenham, Perry Vale and Crofton Park outwards, SE23 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.

SE23 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Perry Vale: With historic houses such as Kingswood House about 1.7 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Living close to Christ Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

When something else is needed

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators

Why act early?

Planning ahead beats a rushed decision in a heatwave. When people buy in a hurry, the unit is often the wrong size or badly placed, and that is hard to put right later. A survey now gives time to choose properly.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
  • Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
  • What’s in the price and what isn’t
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected

Signs you need air conditioning

In shops, offices and restaurants, the heat comes from customers, staff, equipment and lighting as well as the sun. Keeping staff and customers comfortable is normally what prompts the call, and some rooms need cooling for the equipment as much as the people.

Any of these is worth a proper look:

  • A portable unit with a hose out of the window
  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
  • Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly:

  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
  • Book an annual service

If anything is not right after we’ve gone, call us on the same number. Let us know what’s happening and any error code, and we’ll talk it through with you.

Report drips, noises or error codes early. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault, and early repairs are usually simpler.

Your questions about air conditioning in SE23

What does F-Gas certified mean?

The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Normally, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before we start.

Which type of system should I choose?

It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.

Do I need planning permission?

Sometimes. Heat pumps and cooling-only units are treated differently, and so are flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We point out anything that may need permission at the survey, and the council has the final say. This is general information, not legal advice.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
