About air conditioning in SE27
Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Common call-outs are for expensive direct electric heating and an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life, on ducted systems, wall-mounted split systems and VRF systems.
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
How we quote
Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.
Why choose AirCon Doctor
- 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns
- Leading brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu
- NICEIC approved electrical contractors
- We reply to enquiries the same working day
Getting a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Near you in West Norwood
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around West Norwood Congregational Church, St Luke's Church of England Primary School and Norwood School, among other places. Other local landmarks include Hillcrest (0.5 miles south-east), Long Meadow (0.5 miles east) and The Park pub (under half a mile south-west). For rail, the closest station is West Norwood station, roughly 0.5 miles north-west. Other landmarks nearby include Centrale Croydon (3.5 miles south) and St Christopher's Hospice (1.6 miles east). For a walk, there’s Dulwich Upper Wood and Battersea Park Lake.
Where we install in SE27
In SE27, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. We are F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps.
West Norwood: Plenty of people near West Norwood station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. Homes near West Norwood Congregational Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
When something else is needed
We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
What we are called out for in SE27
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
These are the situations we see most often:
- Expensive direct electric heating
- An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
- An old system that needs replacing
- Too many options and no clear advice
Different systems, different jobs
Electrical supply
We check the consumer unit on the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. An older board may need extra work and we’ll tell you if yours does.
Pipework and condensate drains
Cooling produces water as the air is dried, which the condensate drain takes away. If gravity won’t do it, a condensate pump is fitted and we allow for that in the quote.
How we price air conditioning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
- The number of rooms, units or zones
- The equipment or parts the job needs
Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
Before you get in touch
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, ring 07833 053749 or send an email.
SE27 questions
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.
Do you cover SE27?
Yes. Our engineers work in SE27, as part of our area across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
