Air conditioning across CR4: what to expect

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. The work covers VRF systems, wall-mounted split systems and ceiling cassettes, and common reasons people get in touch are an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life and old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient.

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we’ve done and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How we quote

What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and the parts and time the job needs. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Why book with us

  • Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba and more
  • NICEIC approved for electrical work
  • Diagnosis first, then a fixed price
  • Fixed-price quotes after a survey or photos

Getting a price

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

What’s near Eastfields

In Eastfields, that means homes and buildings near Figge's Marsh, Furzedown Secondary School and The White Lion of Mortimer pub, among other places. Also close by are St. Mark's Church (within half a mile south-west), St Mark's Church of England Academy (less than half a mile south-east) and Lonesome Primary School (within half a mile east). Eastfields has its own railway station: Mitcham Eastfields station. Well-known places in the area include Centrale Croydon (3.1 miles south-east) and Wandle Industrial Museum (0.7 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Henman Hill and Oakleigh Way.

Air conditioning around CR4

Planning rules are the same across England, CR4 included: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.

We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, CR4 included. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.

Eastfields: With historic houses such as Southside House about 3.4 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. If you commute from Mitcham Eastfields station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to, and we will keep everyone informed.

From a single flat to a whole estate, the approach is the same: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and phone 07833 053749 or send an email.

Why act early?

Planning ahead beats a rushed decision in a heatwave. A rushed choice is often the wrong size or in the wrong place, which is costly to undo. Booking the survey early gives you time to weigh up the options.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
  • What paperwork you will receive afterwards
  • Whether they looked at the job before pricing it

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Draughts and missing insulation
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

Questions from CR4

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.

Is CR4 in your area?

Yes. We work in CR4 and the rest of Greater London, as part of our area across London and the South East. To book, phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

When will I hear back?

You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Which brands do you work with?

We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
