How air conditioning works in SE26
We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. Typical jobs include a business premises that overheats in summer and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, on multi-split systems, VRF systems and ducted systems.
The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
What you’ll pay
Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are unsure, ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed price.

Sydenham: Older streets near Church of St Bartholomew may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. Kingswood House, about 1.2 miles west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
Looking after your system
Aftercare is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
- Have the system serviced once a year
We show you how to take the filters out and clean them. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, or as the manual recommends, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.
Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing you can do. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, which costs you more to run.
Leave it or put it right?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.
Comparing quotes

- Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
- Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
System by system
Ducted systems
A ducted system needs a ceiling void or loft deep enough for the unit and ducts plus an access hatch for maintenance. The survey confirms whether there’s room.
Multi-split systems
Indoor units on a multi-split don’t all have to look the same, choosing what suits each room, depending on the model. We plan the mix on the survey.
SE26: your questions answered
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
In many cases, but permissions come first. You will normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route and the lease will say. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you work on all makes?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before booking anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we’ll tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
